Brut

This collection of vessels is best understood as a series of functional sculptures. The vessels are inspired by the built environment, more specifically the Brutalist style of architecture. Brut is a French word that translates in English as raw. The monolithic, almost static appearance of Brutalist buildings with their limited use of materials (predominately concrete), remains an ongoing preoccupation.

By leaving the exterior surfaces unglazed, the materiality of the clay body is celebrated which ultimately provides for a greater emphasis on the overall geometric forms.
